WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SERVICES
The Telephone Company is responsible for turning on phone service to the house. All wiring inside the house or business is private. The phone company charges some rather hefty fees for any work they do in areas they aren't responsible for. Many residents and business people don't realize they have a choice. It's a natural reaction of many phone users to simply expect the phone company to take care of all their needs, not realizing a private contractor can save them as much as 50% on installation and repair needs.

BEFORE YOU CALL THE TELEPHONE COMPANY OR A PRIVATE CONTRACTOR
Your local telephone service provider is responsible for providing access (dial tone and service wire) from your home or business to the local telephone network. You are responsible for telephone, inside wiring and jacks in your home. Before you call your telephone provider or Seashore Communications for repair service you should know whether the problem is inside your home or outside your home, so you can avoid unnecessary repair visit charges. If we come out to your home on a repair service call and the telephone provider is responsible for the repair you will be charged for the repair visit. You should also note that if you rent a home or apartment, your landlord might be responsible for the inside wire repairs.

Is the trouble with the inside wiring? Residences that have modular equipment may also have a network interface or NID. If you determine that the trouble is not in the telephone set, plug the set into the network interface to see if the problem still exists. The network interface is usually located where the telephone line comes to the house, usually on the outside wall. If the problem no longer exists, the trouble is probably with the inside wiring. You can repair the inside wiring yourself or hire a private contractor.
